Ingredients

Scale

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

Noodles

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Main Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water

Garnish

  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth with no lumps. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk thoroughly to combine and set the sauce aside.
  2. Cook the noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook for 2-3 minutes until just tender. Drain the noodles and rinse under cold water to stop further cooking. Toss the noodles with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Season the sliced sirloin steak with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Add the steak to the skillet and let cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes to develop a good sear. Stir and cook for another 2 minutes until the steak is cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and drain off any excess grease.
  4. Steam the broccoli: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Add the broccoli florets and pour in 1/2 cup water. Cover the skillet to steam the broccoli for 2 minutes, until it is bright green and fork tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine steak and noodles: Return the cooked steak to the skillet along with the prepared noodles.
  6. Add the sauce and finish cooking: Stir the prepared sauce again and pour it into the skillet. Use tongs to toss all ingredients together while cooking for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and everything is evenly coated and heated through.
  7. Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds for an added nutty flavor and crunch.

Notes

  • Discard the ramen seasoning packets to reduce sodium and control flavor balance.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to keep the dish from becoming too salty.
  • Be careful not to overcook the broccoli to maintain a crisp texture.
  • Cut the steak thinly and uniformly for even cooking.
  • Leftover stir fry can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
  • Optional: Add sliced mushrooms or bell peppers for extra vegetables.
