Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Layer

  • 1 brownie mix (9×13 pan size)
  • 1 extra-large egg

Cream Cheese Layer

  • 1 package cream cheese (8 oz), softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 container whipped topping (8 oz)

Pudding Layer

  • 1 package chocolate instant pudding (3 oz)
  • 1 package vanilla instant pudding (3 oz)
  • 3 1/2 cups milk

Topping and Garnish

  • 1 container whipped topping (8 oz)
  • 1 Hershey bar (for shavings) or chocolate syrup

Instructions

  1. Prepare Brownies: Follow the package instructions to prepare the brownie batter, adding one extra-large egg to make the brownies fudgier. Bake in a 9×13 pan as directed. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before proceeding.
  2. Make Cream Cheese Layer: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and one container (8 oz) of whipped topping. Mix until smooth and well combined. Spread this cream cheese mixture evenly over the fully cooled brownies.
  3. Prepare Pudding Layer: In a separate bowl, whisk together both the chocolate and vanilla instant pudding mixes with 3 1/2 cups of cold milk. Beat until the pudding thickens. Once ready, spread this pudding evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  4. Add Whipped Topping Layer: Spread the remaining container (8 oz) of whipped topping evenly over the pudding layer, smoothing the surface for an attractive finish.
  5. Garnish and Chill: Garnish the top of the cake with chocolate shavings made from a Hershey bar or drizzle with chocolate syrup as desired. Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 2 hours to allow the layers to set and flavors to meld before serving.

Notes

  • Adding an extra egg to the brownie batter gives it a richer, fudgier texture.
  • Make sure the brownies are completely cooled before adding the cream cheese layer to prevent melting.
  • Use cold milk when preparing pudding to ensure it sets properly.
  • The dessert is best served chilled and can be refrigerated for up to 2 days.
  • For a lighter option, you can use low-fat cream cheese and whipped topping varieties.
