Tender and flavorful Crockpot French Dip Sandwiches made with slow-cooked beef chuck roast infused with savory beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Perfectly shredded and served on toasted hoagie rolls with melted provolone cheese and a side of rich au jus for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Seasonings

  • 2 pounds beef chuck roast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Broth and Sauce

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

Sandwich Assembly

  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: Pat the beef chuck roast dry with paper towels. Rub it evenly with olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to infuse flavor.
  2. Sear the Roast (Optional): Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the beef on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. This enhances flavor but can be skipped for convenience.
  3. Transfer to Crockpot: Place the browned or unbrowned roast into the Crockpot.
  4. Make the Cooking Liquid: In a bowl, mix beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce. Pour this mixture evenly over the beef in the Crockpot.
  5. Slow Cook the Beef: Cover the Crockpot and cook on low for 8 hours, or until the beef is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  6. Shred the Meat: Remove the roast from the Crockpot and let rest for 5 minutes. Using two forks, shred the beef into bite-sized pieces.
  7. Soak the Shredded Beef: Return the shredded beef to the Crockpot to soak in the flavorful juices for a few minutes to enhance taste and moisture.
  8. Prepare the Rolls: Slice the hoagie rolls open. If desired, melt provolone cheese on the rolls under the broiler for 1-2 minutes until melted and bubbly.
  9. Assemble and Serve: Fill each hoagie roll with shredded beef. Serve with a small bowl of the cooking au jus for dipping. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add sliced onions or bell peppers to the Crockpot during cooking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat leftover beef with a splash of broth to keep it moist.
