Herb Butter
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tbsp fresh dill, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
Steak Sandwich
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 lb steak, thinly sliced into strips
- 1 tbsp salt, adjust to taste
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced into half rings
- 4 slices Havarti cheese
- 1 baguette, sliced lengthwise
- Prepare Herb Butter: In a bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter with crushed garlic cloves and diced fresh dill. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is uniform and creamy. Set aside.
- Slice the Steak: To make slicing easier, briefly freeze the steak for a few minutes. Then cut it into thin strips suitable for sandwich filling.
- Cook the Steak: Heat a skillet over high heat and add 1 tablespoon of oil. Once hot, add the sliced steak and season generously with salt. Cook until the beef develops a golden exterior but remains tender. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Sauté Onions: Using the same skillet, add the sliced yellow onion half rings and sauté until they turn golden brown. Remove from heat and set aside with the cooked steak.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Slice the baguette lengthwise and spread the prepared herb butter generously on both sides of the bread. Layer the cooked steak slices evenly over one side, top with sautéed onions, and then place slices of Havarti cheese on top.
- Broil the Sandwich: Keep the sandwich open-faced and place it under the broiler for approximately 2 minutes or until the cheese becomes bubbly and melted to perfection. Remove carefully and serve immediately.
Notes
- For easier steak slicing, briefly freeze the meat before cutting.
- Adjust salt to your taste preference when seasoning the steak.
- You can use different types of cheese if Havarti is unavailable, like provolone or mozzarella.
- Broiling time may vary depending on your oven; watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Serve the sandwich hot for the best flavor and texture.
