This creamy Slow Cooker Rice Pudding is an easy and comforting dessert made by slowly cooking rice with milk, cream, sugar, and a touch of vanilla until perfectly tender and rich. Optional cinnamon and raisins add warm spices and sweetness, making it a delightful treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • ¾ cup uncooked white rice (short-grain or medium-grain works best)
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ cup raisins (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Slow Cooker: Lightly grease the inside of your slow cooker with butter to prevent the rice pudding from sticking during cooking.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add the uncooked rice, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, and salt into the slow cooker. Stir gently to combine all the ingredients well.
  3. Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 2–3 hours or on LOW for 4–5 hours. Stir the mixture every 45–60 minutes if possible to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
  4. Finish the Pudding: When the rice is tender and the mixture has thickened to a creamy consistency, stir in the vanilla extract. If using, add the ground cinnamon and raisins, mixing well. If the pudding is too thick, add a splash of warm milk to reach the desired consistency.
  5. Rest Before Serving: Let the pudding sit uncovered for about 10 minutes after cooking. It will thicken further as it cools, resulting in a smooth and luscious texture ready to serve.

Notes

  • Stirring occasionally during cooking helps prevent rice from sticking to the slow cooker sides and improves texture.
  • You can substitute raisins with other dried fruits such as chopped dates or dried cranberries.
  • Use short-grain rice for a creamier pudding, but medium-grain rice works well too.
  • Adjust the sugar amount according to your preference for sweetness.
  • If you prefer a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with whole milk but note the texture will be less rich.
