Batter
- ½ cup (120ml) maple syrup
- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ cup (120ml) milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Glaze
- 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp (30ml) maple syrup
- 1–2 tbsp (15-30ml) milk
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Set aside to incorporate the leavening agent evenly.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a larger bowl, cream ½ cup (115g) softened unsalted butter with ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar until light and fluffy to create a smooth base.
- Add eggs and wet ingredients: Beat in 2 eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in ½ cup (120ml) maple syrup, ½ cup (120ml) milk, and 1 tsp vanilla extract to enrich the batter.
- Combine dry and wet: Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined to avoid overdeveloping gluten, which ensures softness.
- Bake: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool bars: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.
- Prepare glaze: In a small bowl, mix 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar with 2 tbsp (30ml) maple syrup and 1-2 tbsp (15-30ml) milk until smooth. Adjust the milk quantity to reach desired glaze consistency.
- Glaze bars: Spread or drizzle the maple glaze over the cooled bars evenly to finish the sweet topping.
Notes
- Use parchment paper for easy removal and cleaner edges.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the bars soft and tender.
- Adjust the glaze thickness by adding more milk for a thinner glaze or more powdered sugar for a thicker glaze.
- Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
