Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 can Pillsbury Biscuit Dough
  • 1/4 cup Baking Soda
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • Coarse Salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Shape the Dough: Separate the biscuit dough and roll each piece into a small rope. Cut each rope into 4 equal pieces to form the pretzel bites.
  3. Boil in Baking Soda Bath: Fill a large pot halfway with water and bring it to a boil. Carefully add the baking soda to the boiling water. Working in batches, drop the dough pieces into the boiling baking soda bath and boil for about 15 seconds on each side. Use a slotted spoon to remove and transfer the bites onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Apply Egg Wash and Salt: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush this egg wash over each pretzel bite, then immediately sprinkle with coarse salt.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until the pretzel bites turn golden brown.

Notes

  • Boiling the dough in the baking soda bath is key to developing the chewy pretzel crust and that distinctive flavor.
  • If you don’t have Pillsbury biscuit dough, you can use homemade pretzel dough or pizza dough as a substitute.
  • Coarse salt is preferred, but you can customize the topping with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or cinnamon sugar for variety.
  • Serve warm with mustard, cheese dip, or your favorite dipping sauces.
